Apologetics.com

April 25, 2012
Overall this is an OK podcast not great but not horrid either. What I do like is that they attempt to tackle current events/topics, but it it from a very biased point of view. There are no dissenting opinions, no experts,,,which in my opinion take much away from their attempts at apologetics. Regretfully their presentation of opposing views is very weak and at times very distorted (it is as if they purposely choose the fringe aspect). I would call this more of an apologetics "light" version,,,very basic and not too deep.

Apologetics 315

April 25, 2012
Many moons ago I was "accused" of not listening to both sides of the religious argument; an odd accusation considering my background. BUT as I now realize I had been a bit out of touch. So I began to scour the web for some decent apologetic sites and podcasts.

Altho I in no way agree with what comes from the "speakers" I have found that Apologetics 315 has some excellent interviews and great resources. I am thoroughly intrigued by some of the mental gymnastics used by the various interviewe...

Ageless Wisdom

April 25, 2012
The Ageless Wisdom is a non-religious approach to spirituality, the nature of the Soul, and the development of consciousness. Also known as the Perennial Philosophy, Esoteric Philosophy, Mysticism, and prisca theologia, the Wisdom is a consensus from all cultures and all times about the Spiritual Reality of our lives as human Souls incarnate.

This is a podcast that is slowly growing on me. I have only listened to about 25 episodes but I like what I hear, especially that it is coming from a n...

"This Week in Science (TWIS) is a weekly, hour-long web and radio show presenting an humorous, often opinionated, and irreverent look at the week in science and technology. In each episode, TWIS discusses the latest in cutting-edge science news on topics such as genetic engineering, stem cells, cybernetics, epigenetics, space exploration, neuroscience, microbiology, the end of the world, and a show favorite – Countdown to World Robot Domination."

A straight science pod with a practical sid...

Religions of the Ancient Mediterranean

March 2, 2012
Religions of the Ancient Mediterranean is home to Philip A. Harland (Associate Professor, York University, Toronto) and his work: podcast, websites, blog, and publications, providing an entryway into social and religious life among Greeks, Romans, Jews, Christians, and others in the Roman empire. I am currently working my way through Series 1: Paul and his communities.

A good series on the early history of Christianity by looking at the Pauline writings, approached from a strictly historical...

History of Philosophy without any gaps

March 2, 2012
History of Philosophy without any gaps is a wonderful podcast by Peter Adamson, Professor of Ancient and Medieval Philosophy at King's College London.

What I am enjoying most about his cast is he keeps them short, to the point, but covers a lot of stuff. For those of us who haven't studied philosophy (or in my case didn't pay much attention 20+ years ago whilst in college), it is a great primer and one that can be referred to for "future" reference.

I am finding that as I continue my explor...

The Partially Examined Life

March 2, 2012
The Partially Examined Life is straight up philosophy, in a roundtable format featuring three former philosophy graduate students. Each cast features a short reading that introduces at least one “big” philosophical question, concern or idea.

What I enjoy about this cast is the attempts to bring the "big philosophical question" into our "real" world. Both their blog and facebook page are interactive giving us simple folks a chance to discuss the topics covered. They discuss a wide range o...

Conversations from a Pale Blue Dot

March 2, 2012
"This podcast aims, as philosopher Tim O’Connor approvingly noted, to 'take philosophy to the street, illustrating how conversation… can be carried out in a careful, civil, and constructive way by people who disagree.'"

Conversations from a Pale Blue Dot is one of two podcasts by Luke Muehlhauser aimed at philosophy and the philosophy of religion. This "kid" is smart, well read and an extraordinary interviewer. Altho I do not completely understand some of the topics, I find myself ...

American Freethought

March 2, 2012
American Freethought is a "news" slash current events site by Johnn C. Snider and David Driscoll.

"This publication casts a wide net. In addition to perennial concerns like reason vs. religion and separation of church and state, it will also cover topics that any thoughtful reader should find interesting: science, politics, philosophy, the arts, and social issues."

A great pod to listen to (which is available through itunes), altho from a skeptical viewpoint, a balanced and reasoned view of c...
