For the next week I will be cross-posting some of Jackie's writings from her blog to give y'all a feel for what we are in-store for when she chats with Jody and I. Here is the first entry - http://www.jackienotman.co.uk/2010/04/lose-control-and-get-life.html

_______

You’re swimming in a stream when the current suddenly gets stronger

You pass rocks and boulders and catch hold of one

You didn’t want to go this far down river

Your arms get tired and slip and the current gets faster

You’re getting worried now and look around for something to hold onto

You pass a tree hanging over the river and grab one of its branches

You stop for a while but the river is so fast that you can’t rest

The tree branch suddenly gives way under your weight and off you go again

Then, miracle of miracles, you see a boat moored to a tiny wooden pier

You stretch your arms and just grab hold of the boat

You’re safe You can relax You take a big breath - and hear a creak

The pier is starting to break up You can’t do anything

You’re getting bruised and battered as you try to grab hold of anything you pass to save you

Save you from what?

You don’t know because you dare not look around

But you’re scared

Scared of what?

Oh yes, you don’t know do you?

Because you won’t look around

You’re tense, you’re tired.

What have you done to deserve this?  You only wanted a little float in the river

Who told you it was safe.  Just wait until you see them again.

Sometimes, events just take over our life. We’re so caught up in the ‘busy-ness’ that we can’t see the bigger picture. This can happen in our work life or our home life and often both at the same time.

The stress of dealing with a situation can impact our health, our relationships and our happiness. However, the stress is often in dealing with the situation rather than the situation itself. We fear losing control so we try our hardest to keep hold of everything. We try to control so many things that we are simply not able to.

What would happen if you lost control? Or rather, what would happen if you gave your control away for a while?

Stop hanging on to everything. Stop needing to know everything.

Let somebody else take the reins while you look around you to see what’s going on.

Look behind you to see what you’re moving away from or

Look ahead of you to see where you’re going to

You may just find that going with the flow is taking you to where you should be and you’ll be a lot happier and relaxed when you arrive.
